March in Davis for Standing Rock Divestment Action  Friday, April 14 at 11:30am     

The Standing Rock Divestment Action Group (SRDAG) of Davis invites all to take part in a “Break Up with Your Megabank” march on Friday, April 14.  Participants will gather at 11:30 a.m. in Central Park, near 4th and C St.

At about noon, the group will walk to the nearby downtown branch offices of Wells Fargo, Bank of America, U.S. Bank, and JPMorgan Chase. Marchers will be joined by several individuals who have pledged to close their accounts with these banks.   • The solidarity march begins at Southside Park in Sacramento, CA at 10:00 am. A pre-march kick off will start around 9:30 am. The Rally will begin at noon on the West side of the CA State Capitol. Future event details will be at link above.
  • The Women’s March on Sacramento is a grassroots effort comprised of dozens of independent coordinators at the state level. The effort is helmed by professional organizers and a coordinating committee who are working hard to pull it all together.
  • A program featuring recognized advocates, artists, entertainers, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and others will be announced in the coming weeks.

Davis residents are invited to gather for a brief rally at 12pm on Tuesday September 13th at the old City Hall, 226 F street to show support for the Standing Rock Sioux and tribal allies who are currently resisting the Dakota Access Pipeline in order to protect their sacred watersheds. The rally is being organised by members of Yolano Climate Action network and is part of a nationwide day of solidarity actions to call on President Obama to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. This Oil Train Theater piece was prepared for the 3rd Stop Oil Trains memorial of the Lac Megantic oil train derailment and explosion that claimed the lives of 47 people in July 2013.   It highlights the close call in Mosier, Oregon when an oil train derailed and four cars burst into flame on June 4th, 2016.  Most of the words are direct quotes from the people involved. Concerned about Oil Trains passing through Davis?  Here are tips on ways to keep up-to-date on new developments.  The latest move by Valero takes the issue of federal preemption to the Surface Transportation Board in Washington D.C. and includes not only the Valero proposal in Benicia but the Phillips 66 project in San Luis Obispo and other west coast projects.  To be actively involved, you must stay informed.

Davis was well-represented at the Benicia City Council hearing for the Valero Crude-by-Rail Project this Monday evening.  Of the approximately 48 people who spoke, 12 came from Davis or Dixon, and another 6 came from Sacramento.  Other locals were scattered in the audience waiting for their names to be called to testify.
